TEN+ YEARS
BlinkLAB architecture, founded in Oakland in 2015, works on both public and private commissions, with a focus on cultural, civic and educational buildings. Our work has been exhibited, published and presented at lectures.
Staying Small, Thinking Big. We are a diverse pool of talent gathered around a single, shared table. Open and collaborative, blinkLAB is a multidisciplinary practice that bridges design disciplines—from cultural research and strategy to architecture, urban infrastructure, exhibition, and furniture design. Our work starts by situating ourselves in the middle of catalytic design — spatial transformation through design, materials, and technology , with the intent to cause change.

DESIGN
Using Buildings to Repair the City
We design for the seventh generation more than the ribbon-cutting. From adaptive re-use to new construction, from concept to construction documents, we guide every phase of the design process with an eye to the future.
ADVOCACY
Community as the Lead Consultant
We use a collective mode of design and strategic advocacy. We write the brief together – staying open as the design grows.
TECHNOLOGY
Maps, Models, Open Data, Sensors
Data mapping, material intelligence, full-scale models, daylight studies, parametric envelopes are all tools in the process. Through it all, there is no division between humans, nature and future-building.
In-House Fabrication
With our in-house laser cutter, CNC milling machine, 3D printer, along with model-making, we explore how conceived ideas can be assembled, and experienced. Through iterative physical prototypes and full-size mock-ups, the studio investigates the relationship between material, structural practicality and cost, allowing design refinement to emerge early.
