HOW DO WE PLAN FOR THE NEXT 30 YEARS? WHERE HAVE WE BEEN? WHERE DO WE WANT TO GO?
We were excited to partner through the 1% Pro Bono program. EOBA’s thirty year-old facility located in the heart of an industrial zone was over-due for upgrade.
The Conceptual Development study for the EOBA lays a series of physical and programmatic steps that can be taken to re-imagine the center's assets. It illustrates how these opportunities exist to create a more cohesive spatial organization where recreational, educational, and entrepreneurial spaces which combined with the working garden support a healthier and safer community center.
Being sensitive to EOBA’s financial constraints, we proposed a low-cost, pre-engineered structure as a solution for the new building with an art room, computer lab, maker and study areas; as well as cooking and communal gathering spaces.
The simple two-story structure includes an additional exterior courtyard available for special events or later enclosed during future expansion.
Roof solar panels, a grey water recycling system, and connection to the existing roof rainwater catchment system will reduce future operational costs.
Equipped with an outdoor projection wall, EOBA is conceived as an industrial urban artifact tricked out with energy-saving solutions. A Cathedral Shelter with colored glass and exposed structure complete with "piazza", it interferes the factory aesthetic and beckons the public to come inside with a call to community.
